Welcome Dr. Carr
MMC welcomed a new Chief Nursing Office, Dr. Devin Carr, in August 2020. Immediately upon his arrival, Dr. Carr began rounding across the hospital and meeting with clinical staff. He visited over 35 units and departments within the first three months of his tenure at MMC. During Dr. Carr’s unit rounds, nurses not only were able to meet their new CNO, but also share their best practices, quality data, and areas for improvement.
Dr. Carr soon identified current hiring practices as a primary RN concern. Staff wanted new hires to be onboarded into permanent, rather than rotating, shifts to reduce the need for senior nurses to take on rotating shifts. In partnership with HR, Dr. Carr was able to change this practice and nurse job postings are now for permanent shifts. This has led to improved staff satisfaction.
A Letter from our Chief Nursing Officer
Maine Medical Center is home to one of the most accomplished and talented nursing teams in the country. It is an honor for me to serve as chief nursing officer for this outstanding team of nearly 2,000 nursing professionals who have achieved three Magnet designations and are currently pursuing their fourth.
Every patient who comes to Maine Medical Center for care knows that the care they receive from their nurse is compassionate and personalized. But what they can’t see is how those qualities are replicated across our entire nursing team regardless of role, location, diagnosis or seniority. We all share a commitment to providing the highest quality care possible. As America’s most trusted profession, we take this responsibility seriously.
This biennial report is intended to give our community a broader, more comprehensive perspective on just how incredible nurses are at Maine Medical Center. I know after reading it you will gain a deeper sense of gratitude and pride for how fortunate we all are to have this incredible resource in our community.
